Kenneth Drake, an early proponent of playing classic repertoire on historical instruments, will perform an All Beethoven Recital on his John Lyon fortepiano which replicates those used by Mozart and Beethoven. Unlike the modern piano, the fortepiano with its singing, bell-like quality is much more intimate in sound. Hence, Beethoven’s contemporaries’ comments that his music “transcends the instrument.”
