by | Jul 9, 2021 | Education

MPAC is proud to announce it has received a $1,873 grant for its Summer Arts Enrichment project at Patriot’s Gateway Community Center. The grant was awarded by the Community Arts & Humanities Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois’ Community Grants Program.

Specialists in visual arts and music will lead activities that provide students with fine arts enrichment through multi-cultural lessons July 5 – 9 and 12 – 16, 2021 at Patriot’s Gateway Community Center, a recreation center in near-southeast Rockford that provides a variety of learning activities in a safe and caring environment. Each week will culminate in a field trip (July 9 to Rockford Art Museum and July 16 to Rockford Music Academy).

Barbara Simon, Chair of MPAC’s Outreach and Education Commission, states, “Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center hopes to enrich the lives of the students at Patriot’s Gateway by increasing their exposure to the arts and allowing them to express their creativity, discipline and teamwork. Having exposure to the arts inspires children to seek out the arts and helps to grow a community of arts supporters.” Because of the Community Foundation Grant, MPAC is able to offer this valuable arts experience to Rockford’s youth.
